HISTORICAL BACKGROUND
The school formally opened its gates to the public in June 1975 by offering the standard four-year general secondary course it was authorized to operate through Government Permit (NCR) No. 232 series of 1975. The school was initially housed in the INC-owned building at 499 Carlos Palanca Sr. (former Echague) St. Quiapo, Manila.
In June 1977, NEEI was formally incorporated (mandatory under Republic Act 1459 or the Corporation Code of the Philippines). It aimed to develop academic excellence, professional responsibility, and social awareness founded on genuine Christian principles. Four years after, the school assumed the name New Era College (NEC) when it was grated recognition by the Ministry of Education, Culture and Sports (MECS) to offer collegiate courses. Two decades after establishment, the school was granted "university status" by the Commission on Higher Education (CHED); consequently, it became known as New Era University (NEU). As these developments unfold, the High School Department was maintained as one of the academic-administered units of the school. It also retained its recognition by the DECS (known now as Department of Education [DepEd] under Government Recognition (MECS-NCR Certificate) no. S-0039, s 1987.
In 1988, Level I accreditation was granted to the High School Department's Program by the Association of Christian Schools and Colleges Accrediting Agency, INC. (ACSC-AII), a member of the Federation of Accrediting Agencies of the Philippines (FAAP). Three years later, ACSC-AII conferred Level II accreditation to the same program. Finally in 2004, a five-year continuing Level II accreditation status was awarded by the same agency to the NEU High School program.
