DR. GENESIS C. RIVERA ELECTED PRESIDENT OF THE 14TH CONGRESS OF THE ASIAN SOCIETY FOR PEDIATRIC RESEARCH

Dr. Genesis C. Rivera, NEU Executive Director for Medical and Allied Health Sciences (CMAHS), was recently elected President of the 14th Congress of the Asian Society for Pediatric Research (ASPR) during the 12th Congress of the Society held in Bangkok, Thailand last November 10 – 11, 2016. The 14th Congress will be held in Manila in October 2018 with the Philippines as the host country.

The ASPR is composed of fourteen Asian countries namely, Japan, China, Singapore, Hong Kong, Philippines, Taiwan, Thailand, Korea, Indonesia, Malaysia, India, Bangladesh, Pakistan and Myanmar. It is a professional society composed of pediatricians, academicians, allied health workers and researchers in the field of pediatrics and child health. Its orientation is towards promoting pediatric researches to improve child health in Asia and encouraging collaboration among member countries in areas of pediatric research. Every year in its congress, hundreds of pediatric researches are presented by well-known researchers and pediatricians as well as by young investigators. For this year, one of the two recipients of Young Investigator Award is a Filipino pediatrician.

Dr. Rivera sits in the Executive Council of the ASPR as the Philippine representative; he is a past president of the Philippine Pediatric Society. Aside from being the Executive Director of the CMAHS at NEU, he is also professor of Pediatrics and Medical Humanities at the NEU College of Medicine and professor of Music History, Piano and Organ at the NEU College of Music.
